John Wroath leads Demand Generation at nLighten, the European edge data centre operator with more than 30 facilities spanning Germany, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. Based in Amsterdam, he's spent the past year building the company's marketing strategy around a theme that's become increasingly central to the European tech conversation: data sovereignty, and the question of where, and under whose control, our data actually lives.
It's a fitting focus for someone who has spent two decades inside the infrastructure that quietly runs the internet. John cut his teeth over nearly 12 years at Equinix EMEA, where he built SPARX Days, a global sales acceleration programme that generated more than $100 million in revenue over three years, and was recognised as the company's Most Valuable Player in 2024. Since joining nLighten, he's rebuilt its demand generation function from scratch, from its SDR team to its go-to-market messaging, while integrating AI-driven tools into the marketing and sales stack.
Outside the data centre, John's curiosity for infrastructure extends beyond his day job. He's a sailor, and has been personally active in crypto and decentralised infrastructure since 2019, from taking part in the early Helium network rollout to running a node on Neuron's air traffic control network today, an interest that gives him an unusually grounded view of where centralised and decentralised infrastructure are heading next.
